A Cross-Layer Design for mobile AD HOC Networking in Fast Fading Channels

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a novel cross-layer design for mobile-to-mobile ad hoc networks. Our scheme makes use of the statistical characteristics of the fast fading channel and cross-layer concept to combat Rayleigh fast fading and improve radio channel utilization. A linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) estimator employs past channel autocorrelation data to estimate the future fading status at the physical layer. The predicted channel status information (CSI) (SNR and average fading duration) is fed into the routing layer. The cross-layer architecture allows the routing layer to improve its decisions by sharing the physical layer knowledge. The proposed routing protocol EAOMDV (Extended AOMDV), which is an integration of the Ad Hoc On-Demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) routing protocol with CSI and handoff, selects the shortest stable route to improve the link quality. Contributing to the cross-layer design, each node in the network can perceive the status of other components and adapt to make the ad hoc network more adaptive and robust.

Cross-layer design of routing protocol for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) has become a hot research topic in recent years. By integrating physical layer, MAC layer and network layer together for cross-layer design, a cross-layer routing protocol called MIR is proposed in this paper. متن کاملEstimating Reliability in Mobile ad-hoc Networks Based on Monte Carlo Simulation (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Each system has its own definition of reliability. Reliability in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) could be interpreted as, the probability of reaching a message from a source node to destination, successfully. The variability and volatility of the MANET configuration makes typical reliability methods (e.g. reliability block diagram) inappropriate. It is because, no single structure or configurat...

متن کاملA robust cross-layer metric for routing protocol in mobile wireless ad hoc networks
In a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) where Mobile Nodes (MNs) self-organize to ensure the communication over radio links, routing protocols clearly play a significant role. In future MANETs, protocols should provide routing under full mobility, power constraints, fast time-varying channels, and nodes subject to high loading. In this article, a novel robust routing protocol, named distributed X-la...
